Let the races begin!

On Saturday June 11th, 2016, an NS90 crew of 17 (16 rowers and 1 drummer) assembled to take part in their first Interfirm Dragon Boat Challenge. This was a fantastically well-organised event held at Lapp's Quay in Cork. While not a gloriously sunny day, it remained dry for the most part and turned out to be an exceptional way for the team to bond, all working towards a common goal of rowing to a steady beat and trying to defeat the other dragon boat.

We had a training session on the Tuesday before the race with a huge turnout for the NS90 team. We'd done our prep and we were ready!

On the day itself, we won our first race with ease, which meant we qualified for the Winners League. Let's relive the moment when we clawed our way to victory:

That's us on the right

We all felt confident going into the second race but unfortunately, we were up against what can only be described as absolute tanks from Brookfield Renewable, and we were easily defeated. As the rain started to fall, it was hard not to feel deflated. Brookfield eventually went on to claim the trophy, which was a small consolation to NS90.

Undeterred, we entered the Dragon's Roar competition, where our rendition of 'Who are we? We're NS90!' went down a storm. Overall, it was such an enjoyable event and a great day out for the NS90 crew!
